ORGAN PRELUDE
WELCOME and CALL to WORSHIP
*This morning, Robert Jakeman will lead us in a special
song, calling us into worship.
Hymn 189* Be Still…
OPENING PRAYER
God, we thank you that as we gather in worship
today, you make space for each of us. You call
us and you equip us. You love us and you
welcome us. You invite us to worship you,
knowing who and what we are, assuring us that
there is room for us in your house, among your
people, and a place for us in your kingdom.
Amen.
Choir leads us in song: Taizé Song 19
Magnificat, magnificat,
magnificat anima mea Dominum.
Magnificat, magnificat, magnificat anima mea!
PRAYER OF APPROACH
In our walk through life, O God,
as we all like to think of ourselves
as Davids standing up to Goliaths,
may we see how often we are
the ones who pose a threat:
posing a threat to welcome
by holding fast to our places;
posing a threat to progress
by holding on to tradition;
posing a threat to the good news
by living as miserable Christians.
May we be more perceptive, O God,
discerning those moments when we are
more like stumbling blocks
than stepping stones.
May we look on new things with suspicion,
but to embrace what is of you so that your
church can move forward in strength.
Give us security in your love and your calling
so that we will always be able to make room for
others. Amen.
WORDS of ASSURANCE
Seek the LORD while he may be found;
call on him while he is near.
Let everyone turn to the LORD, and he will have
mercy, and to our God, for he will freely pardon.
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither
are your ways my ways,” declares the LORD.
“As the heavens are higher than the earth, so
are my ways higher than your ways and my
thoughts than your thoughts.
Thanks be to God. Amen.
Choir leads us: Taizé Song 17
In the Lord I’ll be ever thankful,
in the Lord I will rejoice!
Look to God, do not be afraid.
Lift up your voices, the Lord is near.
