Watchword for the Week

The Lord is good to all, and his compassion

is over all that he has made. (Psalm 145:9)

(Moravian Daily Texts 2017)

ORGAN PRELUDE

WELCOME and CALL to WORSHIP

Like a hungry crowd, we come to be fed.

Like an anxious child,

we come to be comforted.

Like a forlorn friend,

we come seeking kindness.

Like an agitated mob,

we come demanding answers.

Like a refugee, we come needing a home.

Like a joyous bride, we come to share our joy.

Like a newborn babe, we come with hearts

and minds open to all that life offers.

Like pilgrims of old, we come looking for truth.

Here we reach out to grasp your hand,

here we meet you face-to-face

and we are glad. Amen.

Hymn 484 * Great God, your love has called

PRAYER of CONFESSION

Jesus, I am not worthy

to have you come under my roof.

But only say the word,

and your servant will be healed.

Let us confess our sins.

God of all mercy, we confess

before you and each other that we have been

unfaithful to you.

We lack love for our neighbors, we waste

opportunities to do good, and we look the

other way when you cry out to us in the

suffering of our brothers and sisters in need.

We are sincerely sorry for our sins,

both those we commit deliberately

and those we allow to overtake us.

We ask your forgiveness and pray for

strength that we may follow in your way and

love all your people with that perfect love

which casts out all fear; through Jesus

Christ our Redeemer. Amen.

ASSURANCE of PARDON

Hear these comforting words: If you repent and

believe in God’s mercy, your sins are forgiven.

Trust in God’s promises and begin anew your

life with God and all people, in the name of

Jesus Christ. Amen.

AFFIRMATION of FAITH United Church of Canada

We are not alone. We live in God’s world.

We believe in God:

who has created and is creating,

who has come in Jesus, the Word made

flesh, to reconcile and make new;

who works in us and others by the Spirit.

We trust in God.

We are called to be the Church,

to celebrate God’s presence,

to love and serve others,

to seek justice and resist evil,

to proclaim Jesus, crucified and risen,

our judge and our hope.

In life, in death, in life beyond death,

God is with us. We are not alone.

Thanks be to God. Amen.
