ORGAN PRELUDE

WELCOME and CALL to WORSHIP

(Verses from Psalm 98)

Sing a new song to the LORD;

he has done wonderful things!

By his own power and holy strength

he has won the victory.

The LORD announced his victory; he made

his saving power known to the nations.

He kept his promise to the people of Israel

with loyalty and constant love for them.

All people everywhere have seen the victory of

God. Sing for joy to the LORD, all the earth;

praise him with songs and shouts of joy.

Hymn 320 Joy to the world, the Lord is come

PRAYER of APPROACH

Christ is born! And our hearts jump for joy.

Christ is born! And our souls fill with gladness.

Christ is born! And our mouths shout the news.

Christ is come! From the darkness of night.

Christ is come! Bringing healing and light.

Christ is come! To a world grown weary.

Christ is here! Among us, around us, within

us. Christ is here! To inspire us, to encourage

us, to love us. Christ is here!

Let us look around us and celebrate.

God, you come as living light:

may we run with the light to bring your glow

of love into the darkest corners.

God, you come as the Word made flesh:

may we do more than mutter about the

Good News, but live it among those who

long to meet you face to face.

God, you come as the gift of love to a waiting

world: may we keep nobody waiting as we

share your gift with those who hunger and

thirst for your Christmas love. Amen.

STATEMENT of FAITH

We believe in Christmas.

We believe the words of the prophet which

speak of justice to the oppressed and care for

the widow are God’s word that sets the world

free: For love came down at Christmas.

We believe in Christmas.

We believe in Christmas.

We believe the light of the world which crushes

all darkness and exposes all lies is God’s light

that shines through every darkness, for love

came down at Christmas.

We believe in Christmas.

We believe in Christmas.

We believe the song of the angels which

celebrates peace on earth and to all people on

the earth is God’s peace which the world

cannot find but Jesus can offer: For love came

down at Christmas. We believe in Christmas.

We believe in Christmas.

We believe Mary’s poem, Magnificat, which

turns everything upside down, where the poor

are lifted up and the powerful are brought

down, is God’s poem that changes the balance

of the world: For love came down at Christmas.

We believe in Christmas.

We believe in Christmas.

We believe the word becomes flesh, the

promise is fulfilled, the light breaks through, the

oppressed are set free, the lowly lifted up and

the baby cries: For love came down at

Christmas. We believe in Christmas.

COMMUNION PRAYER

The Lord be with you. And also with you.

Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

It is right to give our thanks and praise.

…we proclaim your greatness and sing your

praise in the angels’ song:

Hymn 324 1+5 Angels from the realms…

…present to you our very selves, to be a living

sacrifice, dedicated and fit for your acceptance,

through Jesus Christ our Lord. Through him,

with him, in him, in the unity of the Holy

Spirit, all honour and glory are yours,

almighty Father, now and for ever. Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy

name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on

earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our

daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as

we forgive those who trespass against us. And

lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from

evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power,

and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

WORDS of INSTITUTION

Jesus, Lamb of God, have mercy on us.

Jesus, bearer of our sins, have mercy on us.
