ORGAN PRELUDE

WELCOME and CALL to WORSHIP

(Verses from Psalm 111 – New Revised Standard Version)

Praise the LORD! I will give thanks

to the LORD with my whole heart, in the

company of the upright, in the congregation.

Great are the works of the LORD,

studied by all who delight in them.

Full of honour and majesty is his work,

and his righteousness endures forever.

He has gained renown by his wonderful

deeds; the LORD is gracious and merciful.

He provides food for those who fear him;

he is ever mindful of his covenant.

The works of his hands are faithful and just;

all his precepts are trustworthy.

He sent redemption to his people;

he has commanded his covenant forever.

Holy and awesome is his name.

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom;

all those who practice it have a good

understanding. His praise endures forever.

Hymn 175 * Praise, I will praise you, Lord

PRAYER of CONFESSION

God of life, do not darken the light to us.

God of life, do not limit your joy in us.

God of life, do not shut your door to us.

God of life, do not refuse us your mercy.

O God of life, eternity cannot hold you,

nor can our little words catch

the magnificence of your kindness.

Yet in the space of our small hearts and in

silence you can come close and repair us.

(Silence)

O God of life, grant us your forgiveness

for our careless thoughts,

for our thoughtless deeds,

for our empty speech

and the words with which we wounded.

(Silence)

O God of life, grant us your forgiveness

for our false desires,

for our hateful actions,

for our wastefulness

and for all we left untended.

(Silence)

O loving Christ,

hanged on a tree yet risen in the morning,

scatter the sin from our souls

as the mist from the hills;

begin what we do,

inform what we say,

redeem who we are.

In you we place our hope,

our great hope, our living hope,

this day and for evermore.

Amen.

Hymn 256 May the God of hope go with us

(Hymn of the Month, August 2018)

PROMISE of PEACE

The peace of God, the peace of God’s people,

the peace of Mary mild, the loving one,

and of Christ, King of human hearts,

God’s own peace …

Be upon each thing our eyes take in;

be upon each thing our ears take in;

be upon our bodies which come from earth;

be upon our souls which come from heaven,

evermore and evermore. Amen.

The LORD’S PRAYER

(Please pray in your own preferred language / version.)

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be

thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done

on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our

daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as

we forgive those who trespass against us. And

lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from

evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and
