Watchword for the Week

O Lord, our Sovereign, how majestic is

your name in all the earth! (Psalm 8:9)

(Moravian Daily Texts 2017)

ORGAN PRELUDE

WELCOME and CALL to WORSHIP

(Verses from Psalm 8)

O LORD, our Lord,

your greatness is seen in all the world!

Your praise reaches up to the heavens;

it is sung by children and babies.

When I look at the sky, which you have made,

at moon and stars, which you set in their places:

what are human beings, that you think of

them; mere mortals, that you care for them?

Yet you made them inferior only to yourself;

you crowned them with glory and honour.

You appointed them rulers over everything you

made; you placed them over all creation:

sheep and cattle, and the wild animals too;

the birds and the fish

and the creatures in the seas.

O LORD, our Lord,

your greatness is seen in all the world!

PRAYER of APPROACH

From “A Wee Worship Book” (Wild Goose Resource Group)

All you works of God, all you mighty heavens;

all you angels of light, all you saints in glory,

worship and praise your maker.

All you heavenly bodies; sun, moon and stars;

all you earthly weathers: wind, rain and thunder,

worship and praise your maker.

Fire and searing heat, ice and deadly cold;

light and deepest dark, endless nights and days,

worship and praise your maker.

Mountains and high hills, forests and trees;

flowers and plants, waterfalls and streams,

worship and praise your maker.

Whales beneath the seas, birds in the skies;

all that leaps or crawls, creatures wild and tame,

worship and praise your maker.

People, young and old, children, women, men;

all who do heaven’s will, all who love the Lord,

worship and praise your maker.

(Silence)

You do not need our praise,

but we need to praise you.

It is the yearning, the restlessness

which you have planted in us.

It is our desire for a true home

and unconditional acceptance

that brings us here.

All the rumours we have heard about you are

true: You love. You forgive. You transform.

And you know us … oh, how you know us.

You perceive what in us needs to be loved,

what in us needs to be forgiven,

and what in us needs to be changed.

We need no more words, just penitence.

Hymn 776 * Kyrie eleison (Lord, have mercy)

WORDS of ASSURANCE

These are the words of Jesus. They are strong

and true, so believe them: “I have come that you

may have life in all its fullness.” “Go in peace;

your sins are forgiven: Come, each one, and

follow me.” So now may God help us to live as a

forgiven people – visibly different, gloriously

free, for Jesus’ sake. Amen.

DEDICATION PRAYER (in unison)

Threefold God, we pray that you will

continue to bless our world, our nation, and

our Church. Distinct yet united, diverse yet

interwoven; call your people, all your people

into the communion of your love, where each

is named and known. This we pray in the

love of the Father, the healing of the Son,

and the comfort of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

The LORD’S PRAYER

(Please pray in your own preferred language / version.)

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be

thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be

done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this

day our daily bread; and forgive us our

trespasses as we forgive those who trespass

against us. And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil. For thine is the

kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever

and ever. Amen.
