Watchword for the Week

“If anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation:

everything old has passed away. See, everything

has become new!” (1 Corinthians 5:17)

(Moravian Daily Texts 2013)

(Psalm 32:1-7)

Happy are those whose sins are forgiven, whose wrongs are pardoned.

Happy is the one whom the Lord does not accuse of doing wrong and who is free from all deceit.

When I did not confess my sins, I was worn out from crying all day long.

Day and night you punished me, Lord; my strength was completely drained, as moisture is dried up by the summer heat.

Then I confessed my sins to you; I did not conceal my wrongdoings.

I decided to confess them to you, and you forgave all my sins.

So all your loyal people should pray to you in times of need; when a great flood of trouble comes rushing in, it will not reach them.

You are my hiding place; you will save me from trouble. I sing aloud of your salvation, because you protect me.

Hymn 160 * Praise, my soul, the King

God, our hiding-place, our homecoming, you surround us with shouts of deliverance. Shout for joy, all you who are true of heart:

Be glad, and rejoice in the Lord!

You are like a beacon in the darkness, a lighthouse in a sea boiling and raging, a place where we can find our bearings and plan new journeys. Shout for joy, all you who are true of heart:

Be glad, and rejoice in the Lord!

Lord, you bring home the wanderer, and you party with those who repent. Your love knows no limits or boundaries.

We rejoice that when we stray, we see you from far off, running to greet us with the robes of rejoicing. Shout for joy, all you who are true of heart:

Be glad, and rejoice in the Lord!

In times of trouble, we come to you, faithful God, to acknowledge our guilt and confess our sin. The Psalmist has sung of your forgiveness. We who have heard his words want to be counted in the number of those who are glad, because you have taken their sins away. We will not conceal our guilt, Lord. Before you now, we admit that we have gone wrong.

Hymn 493 * It’s me, it’s me, O Lord

Blessed by your mercy, lifted by your healing, we receive your pardon, O Lord, and rejoice.

Thanks be to God! Amen.

Hymn 374 From heaven you came

Hymn 555 * Amazing grace

(Offerings are gathered)

Hymn 807 Doxology

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise him, all creatures here below;

Praise him above, ye heavenly hosts; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

(Offerings are brought forward)

As the prodigal made for home, so we turn back to you.

As the parent celebrated his return, so we rejoice with all who love you.

We are not worthy to receive all that we have, and what we offer is a simple token of

all that you have given. So receive us and our offerings as we come with grateful hearts into the love of God: Creator, Redeemer, and Spirit. Amen.

ANNOUNCEMENTS (see overleaf and insert)

Merciful Father God:

welcome us home and supply our needs.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be

done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our

trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,

forever and ever. Amen.

Hymn 167 * Guide me, O thou great Jehovah
