Watchword for the Week

“Forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to

what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the

prize of the heavenly call of God in Christ Jesus.”

(Philippians 3:13-14)

(Moravian Daily Texts 2013)

ORGAN PRELUDE

WELCOME and CALL to WORSHIP

(Psalm 126)

When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dream.

Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with shouts of joy;

Then it was said among the nations, “The Lord has done great things for them.”

Indeed, God did great things for us; how happy we were!

Restore our fortunes, O Lord, just as the rain brings water back to dry riverbeds.

May those who sow in tears reap with shouts of joy.

Those who go out weeping, bearing the seed for sowing,

shall come home with shouts of joy, carrying their sheaves.

PRAYER of APPROACH

God of power and might and grace, you have done great things for us:

blessed be your name!

For dreams of sunshine through storm-clouds:

we thank you, suffering Lord.

For the promise of deliverance beyond despair:

we thank you, suffering Lord.

For the glimpse of new joy beyond present

weeping: we thank you, suffering Lord.

For the hope of heaven beyond this life on earth:

we thank you, suffering Lord.

Lord, let us not dwell in the past, nor worry about the future. We cannot undo what is done; we cannot foresee what will come. Let us instead dwell in your peace, love and be loved, heal and be healed. We give the past to you and rest in your forgiveness. We give the future to you and rest in your love. We live in your light:

open our eyes that we may see.

We live in your love: let your love flow through us, to the fulfilment of your kingdom. Amen.

WORDS of ASSURANCE (Isaiah 43:18-19)

“Do not cling to events of the past, or dwell on what happened long ago,” says our God. “Watch for the new thing I am going to do. It is happening already – you can see it now!”

Thanks be to God! Amen.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

PRAYER for OTHERS

May they know the deep peace of Christ: God to enfold you, Christ to uphold you,

Spirit to keep you in heaven’s sight; So may God grace you, heal and embrace you,

lead you through darkness into the light.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

INVITATION and PRAYER

Look, Lord, on your children, who love your name and need your care. Let your hands be known in the touch of friends. Lord, say the word and we shall be healed.

If you wish to receive the prayer of blessing and the laying-on of hands, come forward to kneel, sit or stand at the altar step. You may also share in pronouncing the prayer of blessing on others.
