PRAYER of ADORATION and CONFESSION

Gracious God, thank you for gathering us

together in this time and space.

Thank you for your great love that welcomes us.

Thank you for the comfort

of your everlasting arms.

Thank you for the guidance

of your shepherd’s staff.

Thank you for the wisdom

that created us and all creation.

Thank you for the light that

breaks through our places of darkness.

Thank you for the righteousness

that seeks out justice.

Thank you for the compassion

that tends to the suffering.

Thank you for the peace

that conquers all hostility.

Thank you for the many ways

you make yourself known to us. Amen.

Merciful God, you call us to follow where you

lead, and call us to gather together your children

to create communities of love, for you and for

our neighbour, and to attend to those in need.

We acknowledge that we have

not always followed your lead.

We have not gathered your children together.

Sometimes we have even scattered them.

[Silent reflection]

We have not attended to those in need.

Sometimes we have even driven them away.

[Silent reflection]

Forgive us, merciful Creator. Restore us.

As you delivered your people from their sins

in the past, deliver us again, O God. Make us

a new people, dedicated to you. Amen.

WORDS of ASSURANCE

God has shown the mercy he promised to our

ancestors. God has remembered his holy

covenant, the oath he swore to our ancestor

Abraham, to give knowledge of salvation to his

people by forgiveness of their sins; to rescue us

from everything that separates us from him,

that we might serve God without fear, in

holiness and righteousness before him all

our days. Amen.
