Watchword for the Week

Jesus says, “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end.

To the thirsty I will give water as a gift from the spring of the water of life.”

(Revelation 21:6) (Moravian Daily Texts 2013)

(Verses from Psalm 148)

Praise the Lord!

Praise the Lord from the heavens; praise him in the heights!

Praise him, all his angels; praise him, all his host!

Praise him, sun and moon; praise him, all shining stars!

Praise the Lord from the earth, you sea monsters and all deeps,

fire and hail, snow and frost, stormy wind fulfilling his command.

Mountains and all hills, fruit trees and all cedars!

Wild animals and all cattle, creeping things and flying birds!

Kings of the earth and all peoples, princes and all rulers of the earth!

Young men and women alike, old and young together!

Let them praise the name of the Lord, for his name alone is exalted;

his glory is above earth and heaven. Praise the Lord!

Hymn 147 1-4 * All creatures of our God

You bring us in, Lord, to the warmth of this place. You gather us up in the welcome of your house. You hold us together in the fellowship of your love. For yours is the grace that reaches beyond the limits of our understanding; that goes further than borders of our tolerance; that waits in uncharted territory for our minds and hearts to catch up and catch on. Lord, in Christ Jesus there were no boundaries and no place where love feared to tread: not into controversy, not towards a cross, not down to a tomb of death.

In Christ Jesus there were no edges over which love would not pour itself: not among the lost, not among the shunned, not among the doubters.

In Christ Jesus there was no going too far and no going back: neither in the service, nor for the sake, nor for the saving of the world. Forgive us, then, when we fail to be as hasty and as careless in our care for one another.

Forgive us when we lay down the rules and rule out the needs of others.

Forgive us when we claim to be right at the expense of the rights of others.

Forgive us and set us free from all that binds and blinds us.

Lord, when we reach our limit give us the courage to see a little further, to edge a little closer, to move a little nearer, to know a little better your limitless love. Amen.

God shows us a world rich in love’s diversity. God widens the horizons of grace. God crosses each barrier, blessing all our human variety. And God places us as his agents in the midst of that diversity, mercy, and variety.

Thanks be to God! Amen.

Hymn 406 They crucified my Saviour

(Offerings are gathered and brought forward)

(Hymn of the Month, April 2013)

Saviour God, Alpha and Omega, A to Z of our life, give us the courage to believe in the changes you can make, and to choose them for ourselves and our loved ones. Give us the wisdom to realise the changes we can make, and to go with you to those who are suffering, sad or discouraged, to those who have an unfair deal in life, and to do what we can to make a difference there. Amen.

Response: Reveal yourself to us, O Lord:

show us how we may truly love.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
