Watchword for the Week

For the Son of Man came not to be served but to

serve and to give his life a ransom for many.

ORGAN PRELUDE

WELCOME and CALL to WORSHIP

(Verses from Psalm 34)

I will always thank the LORD;

I will never stop praising him.

I will praise him for what he has done; may

all who are oppressed listen and be glad!

Proclaim with me the LORD’s greatness;

let us praise his name together!

I prayed to the LORD, and he answered me;

he freed me from all my fears.

The oppressed look to him and are glad;

they will never be disappointed.

The helpless call to him, and he answers;

he saves them from all their troubles.

Find out for yourself how good the LORD is.

Happy are those who find safety with him.

PRAYER of APPROACH and CONFESSION

Awake my soul, Lord,

for sometimes it slumbers

long beyond the alarm call.

The day is half done

before it stirs at the sight of you.

It is often short on awe in the face of life’s

mundane, and mystery passes it by

like the morning express.

Awake my soul, Lord,

that I may know wonder today.

Chorus (Taizé No. 5) Bless the Lord, my soul

Bless the Lord, my soul,

and bless God’s holy name.

Bless the Lord, my soul,

who rescues me from death.

God in community,

today may I be faithful,

may I honour

those who love me most

and may I respond

with respect, honesty

and compassion

towards all the neighbours I will meet –

the ones I expect to meet,

the familiar ones who will surprise me

and the ones who are as strangers

but to whom I have a duty of care.

Chorus (Taizé No. 5) Bless the Lord, my soul

Bless the Lord, my soul,

and bless God’s holy name.

Bless the Lord, my soul,

who leads me into life.

Gracious and Eternal God, who calls to us

through the whirlwind and also in the silence,

so encamp, we pray, around our hearts this day,

that we might know our burdens shared

and our cares lifted,

that we might regain and renew

our trust in your strength,

that we might ever more be transformed

into your image,

through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom,

with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

be all glory and praise. Amen.

ASSURANCE of FORGIVENESS

Hear the Word of Grace. The Lord is near to the

broken-hearted, and saves the crushed in spirit.

The Lord redeems the life of his servants; none

of those who take refuge in him will be

condemned. Thanks be to God. Amen.

Chorus (Taizé No. 5) Bless the Lord, my soul

Bless the Lord, my soul,

and bless God’s holy name.

Bless the Lord, my soul,

who leads us into life.
