Watchword for the Week

The precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart;

the commandment of the LORD is clear,

enlightening the eyes. (Psalm 19:8)

ORGAN PRELUDE

WELCOME and CALL to WORSHIP

(Psalm 126)

When the LORD brought us back to Jerusalem,

it was like a dream.

How we laughed, how we sang for joy!

Then the other nations said about us,

“The LORD did great things for them.”

Indeed he did great things for us;

how happy we were!

Lord, make us prosperous again, just as the

rain brings water back to dry riverbeds.

Let those who wept as the sowed their seed

gather the harvest with joy!

Those who wept as they went out carrying

the seed will come back singing for joy

as they bring in the harvest.

PRAYER of APPROACH and CONFESSION

Eternal God, we come to you with hungry

hearts, waiting to be filled:

waiting to be filled with a sense of your

presence; waiting to be filled with the touch

of your spirit; waiting to be filled with new

energy for service.

Come to us, we pray. Be with us. Touch us.

Empower us as your people

that we might worship you here and

act in the world for Jesus’ sake.

Gracious God,

we confess what seems always to be with us:

broken things within us that seem never to

mend, empty places within us that seem

always to ache, things like buds within us

that seem never to flower.

O God of love and grace,

help us to accept ourselves;

lead us to do those good and true things that

are not compromised by anything within us.

As much as can be, mend us, fill us, make us

bloom. For all these things, we will give you

the glory; through Jesus Christ our Saviour.

Amen.

Hymn 561 * Blessed assurance

WORDS of ASSURANCE

Hear the good news: In Jesus, our Lord, we

learn that God’s love has no bounds. In Christ

Thanks be to God. Amen.
