Watchword for the Week

Trust in him at all times; pour out your heart before

him; God is a refuge for us. (Psalm 62:8)

(Moravian Daily Texts 2015)

ORGAN PRELUDE

WELCOME and CALL to WORSHIP

(Based on Psalm 62:5-12)

In silence my soul thirsts for God;

for God alone I wait.

My enemies may chase me down,

love shields me from their hate.

God is my rock, God is my strength,

God is my salvation, my refuge,

my abiding peace.

In stillness I pour out my fears,

the solitude builds trust.

My refuge rests in God’s great grace,

my anxious thoughts are hushed.

God is my rock, God is my strength,

God is my salvation, my refuge,

my abiding peace.

In quietness my Lord conferred

two truths I now declare:

No greater love than God’s is known,

no power can compare.

God is my rock, God is my strength,

God is my salvation, my refuge,

my abiding peace.

OPENING PRAYER

Merciful Lord, your Spirit hovered

over the waters of Creation

where diversity sprouted and flourished.

We confess our difficulty

to live with legitimate differences.

Forgive us those attitudes of mind,

works and actions that do violence

to unity in diversity.

Chorus Señor, ten piedad (“Misa Cubana”)

Señor, ten piedad de nosotros.

Christo, ten piedad de nosotros.

Señor, ten piedad de nosotros.

Sí, ten piedad de nosotros.

O Lord, have mercy upon us.

Christ, have mercy upon us.

O Lord, have mercy upon us.

Yes, have mercy upon us.

Merciful Christ, grace and joy of

the multitude, listener and teacher,

you give birth to new visions of hope

and heal the wounds of mind and body.

We confess that we have failed to listen to

voices different from our own, failed to say

words that bring healing and hope, and we

have perpetuated exclusive attitudes to

those who cry out for solidarity and fellowship.

Chorus Señor, ten piedad (“Misa Cubana”)

Merciful Lord, you are the source of all creation,

the Eternal and the life-giving Word.

We confess that we do not listen to

your creation that groans and cries out

for liberation and renewal.

Help us to walk together and

to hear your voice in all living things that

suffer and yearn for healing and care.

ASSURANCE of FORGIVENESS

Our God is a fountain of mercy and grace,

pouring out pardon over us. May God’s love

transform us into a source of living waters to

restore the strength of the people. Amen.

DEDICATION PRAYER

God, present with us and walking in our

midst, grant us this day the grace of your

light and Spirit so that we may continue our

mission and remain faithful to welcoming

and listening to all, even those who are

different from ourselves.

Take away the violence that is in our hearts

and the discriminating attitudes that exclude

and devalue the human dignity of others.

Enable our churches to be welcoming

spaces where feast and forgiveness, joy and

tenderness, strength and faith become our

daily practice, our daily food, our daily

movement forward in Jesus Christ. Amen.

NOTICES and PRAYERS for OTHERS

Sung response (Hymn 805):

Hear us, God of love! Hear this, our cry:

Your will be done on earth, O Lord.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be

thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be

done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this

day our daily bread. And forgive us our

trespasses, as we forgive those who

trespass against us. And lead us not into

temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine

is the kingdom, and the power,

and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
