Watchword for the Week
For the message about the cross is foolishness to
those who are perishing, but to us who are being
saved it is the power of God. (1 Corinthians 1:18)

ORGAN PRELUDE
WELCOME and CALL to WORSHIP
(by Christine Robinson, based on Psalm 19)
Source: http://doubterpsalms.blogspot.de/
The being and beauty of the universe declares
the Glory of God. No words are necessary.
Contemplation of nature revives my soul.
When I view this as unspoken teaching, I am
wise. When I align myself with Love, my heart
rejoices. This enlightenment is more to be
desired than gold. It is sweeter than honey,
and my great reward.
Cleanse me of my secret faults and
presumptuous sins. “Let the words of my
mouth and the meditations of my heart be
acceptable in thy sight, O God my strength
and my redeemer”.
Hymn 83 * I rejoiced when I heard them say

PRAYER OF ADORATION AND CONFESSION
(from Bread for the Journey, ed. Ruth C. Duck)
It is an awesome thing to stand in the presence
of God, to call God’s holy name.
As far as the heavens are above the earth,
God’s ways are above our ways.
But we come with confidence, because
in Christ we are called to be God’s people.
Come, let us bow down and worship,
let us kneel before God our Maker.
God of justice and righteousness,
deliver us from complacency about our lives
and the world in which we live.
Drive out from us careless sin.
Make us sensitive to all that is sacred;
shock us with awareness of any violation of
human life in which we participate.
May our standard be your Spirit,
and not the ways of this world,
through the grace of Jesus Christ. Amen.
Hymn 641 * Seek ye first the kingdom of God
ASSURANCE of FORGIVENESS
In Christ, we are given new life.
The old is gone away. The new is before us.
We are freed to live fully in the present.
That’s the good news that sets us free to love.
Thanks be to God. Amen.

DEDICATION PRAYER
(from Flames of the Spirit, ed. Ruth C. Duck)
For every benefit, we praise you, God;
for every gift received and for each gift
we are blessed in giving.
For all your goodness we give thanks to you:
the providence which made and nourishes life;
the presence which brings meaning in divine
and human love, and the promise that gives
hope for each new moment.
Out of faith and into hope we are led by your
love, and for these graces we return our
thanks, through the mercies of Jesus Christ.
Amen.

PRAYERS for OTHERS
(from Prayers of Intercession, ed. Susan Sayers, p. 172)
Response: May we hear you, Lord:
and want to obey.
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be
thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be
done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this
day our daily bread. And forgive us our
trespasses, as we forgive those who
trespass against us. And lead us not into
temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine
is the kingdom, and the power,
and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
