Watchword for the Week
Jesus says, “Peace be with you. As the Father has
sent me, so I send you.” (John 20:21)
(Moravian Daily Texts 2016)
ORGAN PRELUDE
WELCOME and CALL to WORSHIP
(Verses from Psalm 118)
The LORD’s mighty power has done this:
his power has brought us victory!
I will not die; instead, I will live
and proclaim what the LORD has done.
Open to me the gates of the Temple;
I will go in and give thanks to the LORD!
I praise you, LORD, because you heard me,
because you have given me the victory.
The stone which the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone.
This was done by the Lord;
what a wonderful sight it is!
This is the day that the LORD has made;
let us rejoice and be glad in it! May God bless
the one who comes in the name of the LORD!
Give thanks to the LORD, because he is good,
and his love is eternal.
Hymn 194 * This is the day

PRAYER of APPROACH
(Adapted from words by Oscar Romero)
Christ is risen! Alleluia!
Christ is risen indeed! Amen!
God of Good Friday and God of Easter,
as again we take on our lips
that joyous and explosive greeting,
“Christ is risen”,
may we take into our hearts,
together with all your people,
the beautiful but harsh truth
that our faith does not cut us off
from the world but immerses us in it;
that you have called us to act in solidarity
with the hopes and joys, the anxieties and
sorrows, of men and women everywhere;
and that, like Jesus, you have sent us to bring
good news to the poor, to heal the contrite of
heart, to seek and save what was lost.
Good Friday God, give us your peace.
God of Easter, be with us now.
WORDS of ASSURANCE
Whenever his followers are afraid, Jesus comes
and stands among them. “Peace be with you,”
he says, “As the Father sent me, so I send you.”
Christ is risen! Alleluia!
Christ is risen indeed! Amen!

AFFIRMATION of BELIEF (Iona Community)
We believe in God,
who is older than eternity
and younger than our next breath;
who is beyond describing
yet known to us all by name;
who inspires faith
yet cannot be contained by religion.
We believe in Jesus Christ,
flesh of our flesh, bone of our bone.
He came in the body
to give worth to every human life.
He touched the untouchable, loved the
unlovable, forgave the unforgivable
and endured slander, persecution and death
in order that through suffering love
God’s kingdom might come on earth.
He rose from the grave as living proof
that what is laid down in faith
will be raised in glory.
He ascended to heaven that he might be
present at all times to all people.
We believe in the Holy Spirit,
who leads us into truth and freedom,
who gives good gifts to all God’s children,
who inspires research, enables prayer, and
wills that we practise justice, care of the
earth and the healing of the nations.
We celebrate the potential of the Church,
the life in our bodies,
the yearning in our souls,
the promise of good things in store
for those who love the Lord. Amen.
