Watchword for the Week
Jesus says, “For the Son of Man came
to seek out and to save the lost.” (Luke 19:10)
(Moravian Daily Texts 2016)
ORGAN PRELUDE
WELCOME and CALL to WORSHIP
(Verses from Psalm 46)
God is our shelter and our strength,
always at hand to help in times of trouble.
The LORD Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our refuge.
So we will not be afraid,
even if the earth is shaken
and the mountains fall into the ocean depths;
even if the seas roar and rage,
and the hills are shaken with violence.
There is a river that brings joy to the city of God,
to the sacred house of the Most High.
God is within her, she will not fall;
God will help her at break of day.
Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;
he lifts his voice, the earth melts.
The LORD Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our refuge.
Come and see what the LORD has done,
what amazing things he has done on earth.
He makes wars cease to the ends of the
earth; he breaks bows, shatters spears,
and burns the shields with fire.
“Be still,” he says, “and know that I am God,
supreme among the nations,
supreme over the earth.”
The LORD Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our refuge.
Hymn 189 * Be still, for the presence…

PRAYER of APPROACH
Loving God, we your saints gather to worship
and praise you this day. We celebrate the saints
who have served you and been an example for
us throughout the past. We give you thanks for
the joy of being a part of the communion of
saints with those who have gone before and
those scattered around the globe. Open us to
your Spirit to continue being the saints you have
called us to be.
When we stand at the edge of brokenness
and allow our questions of faith
to distance ourselves from you and others,
forgive us and free us.
When the ways we live as the church
limit our ability to offer compassion,
forgive us and free us.
When we try to be “holy”
without changing the way we are with others,
forgive us and free us.
Hymn 267 Blest be God for ever
(Hymn of the Month, October 2016)
WORDS of ASSURANCE
The face of God we seek is a face of
compassion, steadfast in love, and longing to
forgive. Receive the power of God’s compassion
so that we might have the capacity for love.
Thanks be to God. Amen.

PRAYERS for OTHERS
Hear our thankful prayers,
and make us worthy of your calling.
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be
thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be
done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this
day our daily bread. And forgive us our
trespasses, as we forgive those who
trespass against us. And lead us not into
temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine
is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.
