Watchword for the Week
Be still, and know that I am God!
I am exalted among the nations,
I am exalted in the earth. (Psalm 46:10)
(Moravian Daily Texts 2016)
ORGAN PRELUDE
WELCOME and CALL to WORSHIP
(Based on Isaiah 61 and Isaiah 55)
The Sovereign LORD has filled me with his Spirit.
He has chosen me and sent me
to bring good news to the poor,
to heal the broken-hearted,
to announce release to captives
and freedom to those in prison.
He has sent me to proclaim that the time has
come when the Lord will save his people.
He has sent me to comfort all who mourn,
giving joy and gladness instead of grief,
a song of praise instead of sorrow.
The people will go forth with joy;
we will be led forward in peace.
The mountains and hills will burst into song,
and the trees will shout for joy
because of what the LORD has done.

PRAYER of APPROACH
Astonishing God, glorious in paradise,
we worship you, mighty King above all kings.
Working Word, from the beginning of time
you were shaping the rocks and rivers,
planting your love in the fibres of creation.
King above all kings:
we worship and adore you!
You put all things under Jesus’ feet,
crowning him King of earth and heaven.
You were pleased to hug all things
back to your heart with tender love
for the scattered and shattered ones,
making peace through the cross of Christ.
King above all kings:
we worship and adore you!
King and Judge, we come to you;
we could not trust anyone else
to listen and care about our daily
soap opera of mistakes and crises.
This is not fiction, but our lives.
This is what frightens and shames us.
(Silence)
We have been back-biting and gossiping:
you know we have.
We have been ignoring and bad-mouthing:
you know we have.
We have been cocky and careless:
you know we have.
(Silence)
We can’t turn off some TV to shut off our guilt.
We need to come to you, God of reality.
You are the only one who can forgive us.
Hymn 493 * It’s me, it’s me, O Lord
WORDS of ASSURANCE
Lord, we know you hear and forgive what we
have told you. Nothing can shock you or make
you turn away. Your mercy and justice are
making us whole. Thanks be to God. Amen.

DEDICATION PRAYER
May we – and these gifts – serve you, most
Holy God. May the strength, compassion,
and peace of Christ accompany these gifts
as they become resources for comfort,
change, and hope. Then may we see
together the world of justice, peace and
loving community that you, O God, so
tirelessly toil for, now and forever. Amen.
NOTICES and PRAYERS for OTHERS
Response: Lord, in your mercy:
hear our prayer.
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be
thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be
done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this
day our daily bread. And forgive us our
trespasses, as we forgive those who
trespass against us. And lead us not into
temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine
is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.
Hymn 449 * Rejoice! The Lord is King
