Watchword for the Week

Good and upright is the Lord; therefore he instructs

sinners in the way. (Psalm 25:8)

ORGAN PRELUDE

WELCOME and CALL to WORSHIP

(Psalm 25:1-10)

To you, O Lord, I offer my prayer;

in you, my God, I trust.

Save me from the shame of defeat;

don’t let my enemies gloat over me.

Teach me your ways, O Lord;

make them known to me.

Teach me to live according to your truth,

for you are my God, who saves me.

I will always trust in you.

Remember, O Lord, your kindness and constant

love which you have shown from long ago.

Forgive the sins and errors of my youth.

In your constant love, remember me, Lord.

The Lord teaches sinners the path

they should follow. He leads the humble

in the right way and teaches them his will.

With faithfulness and love he leads all who

keep his covenant and obey his commands.

PRAYER of ADORATION and CONFESSION

God immortal, God invisible, God beyond our

human thought, to you be all glory and praise.

God the Father, you made us for yourself and

our hearts are restless until they find their rest in

you. In love and grace you sent your Son to be

our Saviour: to you be all glory and praise.

God the Son, for our salvation

you came to this earth and lived a life of love.

You died on the cross, rose from the dead,

and promised us the gift of the Holy Spirit:

to you be all glory and praise.

God the Spirit, you come into our lives,

transforming, renewing and strengthening,

guiding us into Christ’s way. You call us into the

life of faith and gather us into the body of Christ:

to you be all glory and praise.

God of our salvation, your Son fasted for

forty days in the desert and, when he faced

temptation, he triumphed over it.

We confess that, unlike Jesus,

we yield to temptation and sin.

We confess our preoccupation with material

things, with money and food and possessions.

We admit that our ears have been

deaf to your call and that we have

not been obedient to your words.

We confess our reluctance to live by faith, our

longing to know all the answers.

We admit that our spirits have

longed for security and that we

have not trusted fully in you.

We confess our obsession with greatness and

strength, with wealth and renown and success.

We admit that our eyes have been

dazzled by power and that we have not

sought to serve you alone.

God of our salvation, forgive us all our sins.

Lead us in your truth and teach us; through

Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Hymn 493 * It’s me, it’s me, O Lord

ASSURANCE of FORGIVENESS

Hear the Word of Grace: Thus says the Lord:

You have burdened me with your sins,

you have wearied me with your iniquities.

I, I am he who blots out your transgressions for

my own sake, and I will not remember your sins.

Thanks be to God. Amen.

DEDICATION PRAYER

As Christ was called by God, so we are

called to be spirit-touched people,

the bearers of a good news that flows

into all the corners of the world.

Where there is conflict and war,

may we live, work and pray for peace.

Where there is heartbreak and sorrow,

may we live, work and pray for relief.

Where there is illness and disease,

may we live, work and pray for healing.

In Jesus’ name we pray: Amen.

NOTICES and PRAYERS for OTHERS

With our God: all things are possible.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be

thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be

done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this

day our daily bread. And forgive us our

trespasses, as we forgive those who

trespass against us. And lead us not into

temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine

is the kingdom, and the power,

and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
